Hey! Grazie per averci contattati ancora, sto molto bene. Stiamo per iniziare la seconda parte del "Lady In Gold Tour", quindi siamo molto felici di metterci di nuovo in viaggio.

L'ultima volta che ci siamo sentiti abbiamo parlato della vostra ultima release "Lady In Gold". Ad oggi, vi ritenete soddisfatti della reazione dei vostri fan all'album? Com'è andata la prima parte del tour?

Siamo davvero felici dei feedback che abbiamo ricevuto da questo album, ha scalato le classifiche ufficiali in diversi Paesi e ciò è stato davvero una sorpresa per noi. La prima parte del tour è stata assieme ai tedeschi Kadavar, siamo stati in giro per circa 8 settimane, a concerti indoor tra i più grandi che abbiamo mai fatto. È stata un'esperienza incredibile e ci ha dato la possibilità di espandere il pubblico dei Blues Pills giorno dopo giorno.

La vostra musica si basa su un blues rock old-style fortemente legato alla gloriosa tradizione di questo genere. Allo stesso tempo il vostro è un approccio fresco e rinnovato. Non è semplice aggiungere ancora qualcosa ad un genere che per anni ha dato moltissimo alla musica, come ci riuscite?

Il nuovo album è leggermente diverso rispetto a quello di debutto, mette assieme una maggior componente soul ai classici elementi blues e rock. Alcuni di noi componenti della band abbiamo ascoltato musica soul per un lungo periodo di tempo e l'evoluzione nel sound di "Lady In Gold" è stata semplicemente la naturale conseguenza in studio di questo.

Assieme al grande successo di questo album, come talvolta succede, qualcuno ha etichettato alcune delle vostre canzoni come troppo "commerciali". Come vorreste rispondere?

Come ho detto prima, l'album è il risultato in studio di un processo naturale che ha guidato la band in fase di scrittura dei pezzi e di registrazione. Qualcuno potrebbe pensare che il nostro sound sia cambiato perché ci è stato detto da qualcuno di farlo per intraprendere una direzione più commerciale. Non è successo questo, ovviamente.

Vi capita di lavorare su del nuovo materiale mentre siete in tour? Girare il mondo vi dà in qualche modo una sorta di ispirazione nel songwriting?

Ci divertiamo un po' a portare qualche idea nuova durante i soundcheck qualche volta, ma in generale è molto difficile trovare il tempo di scrivere in tour.

Nella prima parte di questo tour avete condiviso il palco con i Kadavar. C'è qualcosa che avete imparato da questi ragazzi? Qualche aneddoto in particolare che volete raccontarci di questa esperienza comune?

I Kadavar sono una band davvero buona, in grado di mettere in scena show davvero potenti. Sono un power trio, per così dire, e siamo davvero felici di aver suonato con loro in questo tour. È stato particolarmente stimolante stare con un'altra band per così tanto tempo e poter vedere gli show gli uni degli altri. Anche se siamo gruppi molto diversi, penso fosse una bella occasione per far godere al pubblico un fantastico concerto di entrambe le band.

Lo scorso ottobre ero a Milano per il vostro concerto e sono rimasto sorpreso dall'energia che avete sprigionato per l'intera performance. Cosa percepite quando siete sul palco? Sentite una sorta di intesa speciale con il pubblico?

Ricordo quello show per essere stato davvero energico, d'altronde diamo il 100% ad ogni live e cerchiamo sempre di migliorare le nostre performance. Tutti noi apprezziamo l'opportunità che ci viene data di suonare molto dal vivo ed intraprendere lunghi tour, penso proprio che ciò si possa vedere quando siamo in scena.

Avete qualche ricordo particolare di quello show a Milano?

Ricordo che ci siamo divertiti un sacco, il pubblico era molto partecipe e ciò chiaramente ci ha dato ancora più carica durante la performance.

Tornerete in Italia a marzo, cosa vi aspettate?

Siamo molto contenti di tornare! Il pubblico ci ha sempre accolto molto bene, quindi siamo davvero felici di fare altre due tappe nel vostro Paese.

C'è qualche piano per il futuro che vorreste anticipare ai nostri lettori?

La seconda parte del "Lady In Gold Tour" finirà il 2 Aprile e poi avremo qualche settimana libera prima di rimetterci per strada e suonare in qualche festival estivo. Non abbiamo ancora piani per il resto del 2017, per ora, quindi aspettiamo e vediamo cosa ci porterà questo anno.

Hi guys! Welcome back on SpazioRock.it! How are you?

Hey! Thanks for having us again, I am doing just fine. We are just in the start of the second part of the "Lady In Gold Tour", so we are really excited to hit the road again.

Last time we had the chance to have a chat we discussed your latest release: "Lady In Gold". Today, are you satisfied with the feedback received from your fans? How has the first part of your tour gone?

We are extremely happy with the feedback we´ve got from our latest record, it hit the official charts in various countries which was a big surprise to us. The first part of the tour we did together with the German band Kadavar, we were on the road for about 8 weeks together playing some of our biggest indoor shows ever. It was an amazing experience to be able to spread the music of Blues Pills to a bigger audience every night.

Your music consists of an old-style blues rock deeply rooted in the glorious years of this genre. Nevertheless, there is a noticeable new and fresh approach to it. It's not easy to add something to a genre which has already said so much in the past, how do you do it?

The new record is a bit different if you compare it to the first one, it beholds a bit more of the soul element mixed together with the earlier blues and rock elements. Some of us in the band have been listening to soul music for a very long time and the sound and the progress of making Lady in Gold was just a natural progression in the studio.

Along with the great success of your second album, as it sometimes happens, somebody labelled some of your songs "commercial". What would you reply to that?

As I mentioned earlier, the progression of the second album was just a natural progress when we went in to the studio to write and record it. Some people might think that the sound of the band changed because there was someone telling us what kind of songs to write or to aim in a more commercial direction, but that was of course not the case.

While on tour, do you possibly manage to work on new material? Does being on the road gives you some kind of inspiration for songwriting?

We try to mess around a bit with different song ideas during soundcheck sometimes, but in general it can be kind of hard writing while being on tour.

During the first part of this tour you have shared the stage with Kadavar. Is there anything you learned from them or an anecdote you would like to tell us about this common experience of yours?

Kadavar is a really good band that has a very powerful show, they are a great power trio so to say and we were happy to share the stage with them on the last tour. It is always inspiring to tour with another band for that long, its inspiring to watch each other's shows. Even though Blues Pills and Kadavar are to very different bands, i thought it was a good bill and both bands gave the audience an awesome show.

Last October I was in Milan for your show and I was surprised by the energy you emanated during the whole performance. What are your feelings on stage? Is there a special bond that you sense with the audience?

I remember the show in Milan being a very energetic show, we are all giving a 100% every show and we try to improve our performance every night. All of us are really enjoying this opportunity to play shows and go on tour and I think that you can see that when we hit the stage.

Do you have any particular memory of that show in Milan I am referring to?

I do remember having a lot of fun that night, the audience was really into our show and that of course makes us even more exited during our performance.

What are your expectations for your return in our country in March?

We are looking forward to come back to Italy, the crowd has always greeted us very well so we are happy that we make two stops in Italy on this tour!

And, most of all, is there any future plan for 2017 you would like to anticipate to our readers?

"The Lady In Gold tour" part 2 comes to an end on the 2nd of April and then we'll have some weeks off before we hit the road again for some summer festivals. We haven't any set plans for the rest of the year so far, so we have to wait and see what the year will bring.
