Lo spero. Sono molto entusiasta, davvero molto entusiasta. 

Lo amo. Abbiamo suonato qui una volta sola in un castello fuori Verona ed è stato grandioso.

Assolutamente. Come dico sempre... Non so mai cosa aspettarmi a lavoro finito. Il tour è la migliore reazione, la reazione più onesta, ovvero suonare e avere un'immediata reazione dai fan. Ed è stato grandioso. E' stato magnifico fino ad ora. Lo amo... 

Sì, le canzoni nascono sempre nello stesso modo, fin dalla fondazione della band. Parto da un'idea. Nel passato però dovevo portarla alla band e poi ne parlavamo e c'era da trovare qualche altra idea. Mentre adesso è più facile: scrivo quello che voglio e se mi piace una canzone, questa va su un album. Così funziona... 

Sì, mi sono sentito decisamente più libero di fare quello che volevo. Sono stato molto orgoglioso del processo di registrazione che è stato fatto a casa mia, nel mio studio. Ed è una cosa davvero vantaggiosa perché sai... non hai molto tempo tra gli show e altri impegni. E' bello stare a casa, mi sentivo più a mio agio, molto più creativo... 

Sì, credo di non avere mai pensato ad un'idea precostituita riguardo al sound futuro dei Panic. Mi piace giocare con molte idee, mi piace saltare da un genere all'altro genere. Sì, è divertente mettere insieme canzoni che suonano come Sinatra e come i Queen nello stesso album. 

Oh ragazza... Voglio fare tutto! (ride, ndr.) Non lo so, voglio provare qualcosa che abbia a che fare con il teatro musicale, voglio provare qualcosa che abbia a che fare con i film. Sono un grande fan del cinema e dei film, e credo che sarebbe fantastico lavorare anche con la musica per un film. Sai, una colonna sonora sarebbe una bella cosa da fare... 

Non mi sento sicuramente maturo, mi sento molto immaturo. Tutto il tempo. (ride, ndr.) Ma va bene così, penso che si debba restare immaturi entro un certo limite, restare bambino, divertirsi.  Mi annoio molto facilmente, è qualcosa che non mi ha mai preoccupato. Penso che... in termini di obiettivi, come ho detto, mi piacerebbe fare qualcosa che non ho fatto prima. Non so cosa sia, ma quando si presenterà l'occasione lo capirò.

Sì, sto lì seduto in attesa dell'ispirazione.. no, semplicemente mi piace inserire parole che mi affascinano. I testi sono una parte fondamentale di una canzone ma non ci ho mai pensato quanto ho fatto negli ultimi due anni. Ho iniziato quindi a dedicare più tempo ai testi, confrontandomi con amici che sono songwriters di talento. Mi piace collaborare, mi piace imparare il più possibile riguardo a quelle cose su cui non sono molto ferrato...

Sì, abbiamo iniziato a farla... perchè... sai durante i soundcheck suoni sempre le stesse canzoni, è noioso perchè non c'è pubblico. Quando sei ai tuoi concerti, suoni le stesse canzoni, ma c'è la gente lì... ti senti più invogliato. Quando sei sul palco da solo, vuoi solo suonare. Abbiamo iniziato a suonare i Queen per scherzo, per divertimento. E prima del tour, tre anni fa, ho iniziato a mettere in piedi canzoni e ho pensato che fare una cover sarebbe stato divertente. Siamo stati contattati per il film e loro ci hanno chiesto una versione studio.

E' pazzesco. 

 

 

 

(ride, ndr.) Sì a quel tempo Ryan scriveva la maggior parte dei testi e prendeva ispirazione da libri, film... E questo è quello che abbiamo fatto, era più interessante. A quel tempo non sapevamo cosa fossero i Panic! At The Disco, non sapevamo quale fosse il nostro sound, la nostra immagine o entità come band. Quindi riuscire a fare qualcosa del genere è stato divertente, e siccome un sacco di band hardcore che ci piacevano già lo facevano, abbiamo iniziato a prendere i versi preferiti da un film o un libro per usarli come titoli.  

Sì. In quel periodo quel film era appena uscito e... sai Natalie Portman, ero un ragazzo di quasi 18 anni, lei era così sexy (ride, ndr.). Abbiamo deciso di usare quella grandiosa frase, potentissima...

Sì... (ride, ndr.)

Sì... è oscuro, molto oscuro. E' arrivato perché... non mi piace fare video "letterali", non voglio solo seguire quello che dice il testo, è troppo facile così. Mi piace divertirmi di più. Per questo sono partito dalla mia esperienza di vita Los Angeles... ed avendo vissuto lì per un po', è il mio vissuto ad averla resa bellissima ai miei occhi. Ma volevo parlare con il direttore Brandon, lui è fantastico, e lui se ne uscì fuori con questa idea di fare un basarlo sull'idea di una setta. E' fantastico. Per fare questo video abbiamo avuto Noah Schnapp da "The Stranger Things" che è fantastico, che ragazzo di talento!

Sì, decisamente. 

(Ride, ndr.) Ti piacerebbe saperlo, eh! Fu la prima volta che suonammo in Italia, questa è la seconda, è pazzesco, lo so... suonammo in un posto appena fuori a Verona, era un castello. E fu fantastico...

Sì Cesena. Grazie. Cesena è stata meravigliosa, le persone erano fantastiche, ci siamo divertiti parecchio... Sì beh, ogni tanto i reggiseni vengono lanciati, io non li ho mai chiesti specificamente, ma se li lanciano immagino ci tengano che la cosa venga esibita. Quindi li raccolgo e li appendo all'asta del microfono...

Oh, I love it. Yeah, we only played here once. We played in a castle outside of Verona and it was amazing.

Absolutely. Yeah, like I always say I never know what to expect once it's done and then when the tour starts is the best reaction, the most honest reaction. You play shows and you gain immediatly the reaction from fans. And it has been amazing... amazing so far. Love it. 

Sure (he laughs, Ed.)

Yeah, I mean... I start a song always the same even from the beginning of the band and... I start with an idea and then in the past I had to bring it to the band and we all have talk about it and get more ideas. But now it is easier. I just can write whatever I want and then, if I like a song, it goes in the album. It works. You know... (he laughs, Ed.)

Yeah, I've definitely felt more free to do whatever I wanted and I was very proud of the recording process too. Being in my recording studio, in my house, in my studio it was such a fortunate experience because... you know, not having a lot of time between doing shows and other things that make you stay busy. It was nice stay at home, I felt more comfortable, more creative... 

Yeah, I guess I have never though about like having a preconceived idea what the future might have hold in terms of Panic! sound but.. I like messing around with different ideas, I like jumping genre to genre. Yeah, it is fun to be able to put like Sinatra types song in the same album alongside Queen songs. I love doing it so...

 

Oh man... I want to do everything (he laughs, Ed.). I don't know, I wanna try like something in musical theater, I wanna try something in film. I'm a huge fan of cinema and movies, so I think it would be great work even with music in a movie... like a soundtrack or something like that... 

I definitely don't feel mature, I feel very immature, all the time (he laughs, Ed.) which I think is good. I think you have to stay immature to a certain extent you know, stay child-like, have fun. I get bored pretty easily, so that has never been a concern... I think that, in terms of goals, like I said, I want to get something that I never had before. I don't know what it is but, once it presents itself I think I will figure out. 

(He laughs, Ed.) Yeah, I sit down there at the source... No, it's just like I love throwing in words that captivated me. Lyrics are a huge part of a song and I have never thought about it before as in the last couple of years. So I started to spend more time in lyrics, asking some friends who are very talented lyricists about their opinion and if they had any ideas. I love collaborate and I wanna learn as much as I can about the things I'm not strong at.

We just started doing it because... yeah, you know... during soundcheck you play the same songs and it's a little bit boring because there is no audience. When you play live shows, you play the same songs but there is people it feels new, refreshing. When you're doing on the stage by yourself you just want to play. We have started to play Queen as a joke, like just for fun, making a little more fun for us. And then, before the tour, like three years ago I just started to building a track and I think we should starting covering, it would be fun to do. And then we got an approach from the movie and they asked us to do a studio version.. yeah. 

Yeah!

 

 

Yeah, at that time Ryan was writing most of the lyrics taking ispiration from stuff and most of the lyrics were just a recall from books and movies so that was what we did. It was more interesting to us because at that point we didn't know what Panic! was, we didn't know what our sound was, what our image or identity was. So to be able to try something like that was just fun... And since a lot of hardcore bands we were into were doing that too, so we thought it was cool to put our favorite lines from movies or books and use them as a title.

Oh yeah, that's very true. Yeah, I mean at that time that movie had just came out and.. Natalie Portman was... I was only an 18 years young boy and she's so hot... (he laughs, Ed.) So we decided to use these really great lines, it is a such powerful lyrics.

Yeah... that... It's pretty dark, pretty dark. That came to be because... I don't like to do literal videos a lot of times, I don't just want to walk through what the lyrics is saying... I mean it is pretty easy to do. I like to have more fun than that, so with this one I started from my experience of living in Los Angeles and I have been there for a while and I have my own experiences that make LA beautiful to me. But I wanted to talk with the director Brandon Walter, he's amazing, and he came up with this idea that was just: "Hey we should make a cult!". It's great. Let's make a cult. So, made this video.. and we get Noah Schnapp from "The Stranger Things" and he was so cool, very talented dude, so awesome...

(He laughs, Ed.) Wouldn't you like to know... First time we played in Italy, this is our second time, it's crazy but... we played in a place right outside of Verona, a castle, and it was so cool...

Right Cesena, thanks! It was beautiful. All these people came out and it was amazing, best time ever. Yes, the bras like... yeah, you know sometimes bras get thrown up there, I never asked for it specifically, but if they throw is cool. And if they throwing it I guess they wanna people to see it. So I pick them up and I put all these bras on my microphone stand...
