Ciao ragazzi, e bentornati su SpazioRock! Come va? E' un periodo produttivo per voi?

Probabilmente ad aprile entreremo in studio di registrazione, dato che abbiamo molte canzoni scritte nuove e pronte per l'uso, ma non abbiamo ancora pensato a un titolo preciso.

Sentite qualche tipo di pressione per quanto riguarda la creazione del nuovo album? Sapete, il secondo è sempre una sfida, ci sono molte aspettative da soddisfare...

Sì, sentiamo la pressione, è ciò che ci spinge ad andare avanti come band. Per migliorare e sviluppare costantemente il suono e le canzoni non ci prendiamo mai davvero una pausa dalla creazione di nuova musica. Ma sappiamo anche che il nostro suono si evolverà.

Quali sono le aspettative che vi preoccupano di più? Quelle dei vostri fan, dei critici o le vostre? E perché?

Crediamo nelle canzoni, ed esse devono girare attorno a noi e a ciò che vogliamo. Quindi sono le nostre aspettative quelle che ci interessano di più, ma ciò sarà risolto prima ancora di entrare in studio. I critici non sono una preoccupazione, non riempiono le arene: i fan lo fanno, loro sono il mondo per noi, e sappiamo anche che se pubblichiamo un disco in cui crediamo, lo ameranno anche loro.

Avete puntato a cambiare il vostro suono o a confermare quello che tutti noi abbiamo sentito e apprezzato in "Nova"?

Abbiamo sicuramente sviluppato il suono man mano che siamo diventati più uniti come band, è diventata una progressione naturale mentre stavamo scrivendo insieme.

Pensate di aver già trovato il perfetto "stile Raveneye" o, secondo voi, è una strada lunga quella da percorrere per diventare diventare la band che sognate di essere?

Se pensi di aver raggiunto la perfezione, allora non stai lavorando abbastanza duramente. Siamo sempre alla ricerca di modi per migliorare gli show e il modo in cui ci esibiamo, ogni spettacolo che suoniamo viene registrato così possiamo ascoltarlo di nuovo per vedere cosa potremmo migliorare. Per noi è importante rimanere uno sopra l'altro e concentrati sullo sviluppo. Non direi che siamo lontani dall'essere la band che sognamo di essere, solo che quando raggiungiamo un obiettivo, guardiamo subito a quello successivo e capiamo cosa dobbiamo fare per raggiungere quel livello. È una scala infinita.

L'ultima volta che ci siamo incontrati, lo scorso maggio, avreste aperto il concerto dei KISS a Bologna e il tour era appena iniziato. Cos'è successo dopo? Cosa ne pensi del vostro 2017? Sono sicuro che sia stato un anno significativo per voi...

Abbiamo fatto un tour da headliner in tutti gli Stati Uniti, scritto molta più musica insieme e poi viaggiato di nuovo per l'Europa come supporter dei Bush. E' stato un anno pieno di speranze per noi. È stato uno dei momenti più indimenticabili di tutte le nostre vite. Nessuno di noi era mai salito sul palco di un'arena prima, è stato un punto chiave per noi come individui e come band. Davvero uno degli anni più pazzi che abbiamo passato.

I KISS sono una band leggendaria: avete avuto la possibilità di interagire con loro durante il tour? C'è una storia divertente o strana che vorreste condividere con noi su quello che è successo durante il tour?

Aaron ha avuto il momento migliore per interagire con loro; ci prendiamo sempre gioco del suo amore per il golf e di quanto ne sia ossessionato. Ma il karma ha colpito quando anche il manager dei KISS ha scoperto la sua passione, quindi ha invitato Aaron a unirsi a lui. Abbiamo lasciato che Aaron andasse e ci giocasse per tutto il giorno, intanto noi abbiamo guidato 8 ore per arrivare a Vienna: il mezzi di trasporto di Aaron era un po' diverso dal nostro, dato che ha viaggiato con I KISS su un aereo privato per arrivare alla città dello show successivo. Forse io e Adam dobbiamo prendere in considerazione le lezioni di golf.

Qual è la lezione più importante che avete imparato da loro sul palco?

Probabilmente di parlare alla metà della velocità rispetto alla vita di tutti i giorni, la voce riverbera così forte nell'ambiente che non si capisce più niente! (ride, ndr.). Quindi mi ci sono voluti alcuni spettacoli per uscire dalla mentalità del "piccolo club" ed entrare in quella della zona "arena". Sono anche una grande band per lo spettacolo che propongono, e che amiamo anche noi, anche se i nostri approcci per fare uno show sono estremamente diversi: è stato incredibile guardare le prestazioni ed il modo in cui sanno controllare in maniera massiccia il pubblico.

E cos'è che avete imparato dai vostri fan italiani l'anno scorso?

Che il divertimento è in Italia! Questo è quello che abbiamo imparato! Le migliori folle spettatrici del tour dei KISS erano gli italiani, ci siamo divertiti tantissimo! Così forti, così pazzi, è stato un momento fantastico.

Come riuscirete a sfruttare al meglio entrambe queste "lezioni" nel vostro prossimo concerto nel nostro paese il 24 febbraio?

Porteremo tutta la nostra voglia di fare festa, questa volta il palco è tutto nostro! Abbiamo lavorato duramente per mettere insieme questo show e siamo entusiasti di portarlo in giro, nuove canzoni, nuova follia... Sarà epico.

Cosa possono aspettarsi i vostri fan italiani dalla tracklist dell'imminente concerto a Milano?

Aspettatevi certamente nuovi brani, vogliamo farvi assaggiare qaulche anticipazione della nostra musica futura.

L'ultima volta vi siete descritti come "selvaggi e pericolosi" Qual è la cosa più selvaggia che avete fatto da allora?

Durante il nostro ultimo spettacolo del tour in America, la situazione ci è sfuggita di mano quando siamo rimasti completamente avvolti nei cavi, la mia maglietta si è strappata, appesa al soffitto del locale e la nostra attrezzatura è andata dappertutto. Non siamo soliti distruggere le attrezzature (lo odio anche io) ma l'energia alla fine del tour era diversa da quella sempre percepita, nell'aria c'era molto più della semplice musica. La folla era così intensa e la chimica tra noi eccezionale, che alla fine l'abbiamo fatto. Ne abbiamo pubblicato anche una piccola clip sulla nostra pagina Facebook qualche tempo fa.

Vi va di lasciare un messaggio ai vostri fan italiani e ai nostri lettori?

Portate con voi la voglia di far festa, portate i vostri sentimenti, siate assordanti e selvaggi con noi. Vogliamo rendere questa serata indimenticabile, siete uno dei paesi in cui preferiamo suonare in assoluto. Come sempre, fatevi trovare fuori dal merchindising alla fine della serata, ci saremo e non vediamo l'ora di vedervi tutti. Amiamo l'Italia.

Hi guys and welcome back to SpazioRock! How are you? Is this a productive period for you?

We're looking at recording in April as we have a lot of songs written and ready to go, but we've not even thought of a title yet.

Did you feel any kind of pressure during the new album's creation? You know, the second one is always a challenge, there are a lot of expectations to be matched...

Yeah we feel pressure, it's what keeps us pushing ourselves as a band. To constantly improve and develop the sound/songs, we don't really give each other a break from new music. But we also know the sound will be surpassed.

What are the expectations you are the most concerned of? Those of your fans, the critics' or yours? Why?

We believe in the songs, and sometimes it's got to revolve around us and what we want. So it's our expectations we're most concerned of, but that will be solved before we even enter the studio doors. Critics aren't a concern, they don't fill rooms, fans do, they mean the world to us, but we also know if we put out a record that we believe in, they will love it too.

Did you try to change your sound or to confirm the one we all heard and appreciated in "Nova"?

We've definitely developed the sound as we've become more unified as a band, it became a natural progression as we were writing together.

Do you think that you have already found the perfect "Raveneye style" or, in your opinion, it's a long a way to become the band you dream to be?

If think you've reached perfection then you're not working hard enough. We're always looking at ways to improve the show and how we perform, every show we play is recorded and we listen back to see what we could improve. It's important for us to keep on top of each other and focused on developing. I would never say we're a long way from being the band we dream to be, just that when we reach one target, we look ahead to the next and figure out what we need to do to reach that step. It's a neverending ladder.

Last time we met, last May, you were going to open the KISS gig in Bologna and the tour had just started. What happened next? What do you think about your 2017? I am sure it has been a significant year for you...

We headlined throughout the USA, wrote a lot more music together, travelled through Europe again supporting Bush. The year was so rammed for us. It was one of the most unforgettable times of all of our lives. None of us had ever touched an Arena stage before, so that was a massive milestone for us as individuals let alone as a band. It really was one of the craziest years we've been through.

KISS are a legendary band so we must ask you if you had the chance to interact with them during the tour? Is there a funny, or strange, story you would like to share with us about what happened during the tour?

Aaron had the best time to interact with them; we always mock his love for golf and how obessessed he is with it. But karma came to play when KISS' manager found out he was a fan, so invited Aaron to join him. We let Aaron go and do it for the day while we drove 8 hours to Vienna, Aaron's transportation was a little different than ours as he took a private jet with KISS to make it to the next show. Maybe Adam and I need to consider golf lessons.

What is the most important lesson you've learnt from them on stage?

Probably to talk half the speed you do in every day life, the room reverberates so loudly the clarity gets lost! Ha. So it took me a few shows to get out of the ‘small club' mentality and into the ‘arena' zone. They're also a massive show time band and that we love too, albeit our approaches to making a show are hugely different, the performance and how massively it can effect and control an audience was amazing to watch.

And what is the one you've learnt from your Italian fans last year?

The party is in Italy! That's what we learned! The best crowds of the KISS tour were the Italians, we had such a good time performing there! So loud, so crazy, it was an awesome time.

How are you going to make the most of both of these "lessons" in your next show in our country on the 24th of February?

We're going to bring all the party to the headline show, this time the stage is all ours! We've worked hard on putting this show together and we're stoked to be taking it out, new songs, new madness, it's going to be epic.

What can your Italian fans can expect about your new tracks during your gig in Milan?

Expect some heavy new tunes for sure, we wanted to tease a little about what's to come.

Last time you described yourselves as wild and dangerous. What is the most wild thing you did since then?

On our last show of the headline tour in America, our stage got out of hand as we got completely wrapped up in cables, my shirt got torn up, hung off the ceiling of the venue and our gear went all over the place. We're not ones to wreck equipment (I hate it too) but the energy at the end of the tour was something unlike we all felt, it became so much more than just music. The crowd were so intense, and the chemistry between us was something like we never felt before. We posted a little clip of it on our Facebook a while back.
