"Burn The Beauty Queen" è un disco grunge dalle tonalità psych, nel quale si riflette alla perfezione la natura eccentrica della band, attraverso un feroce e sporco cantato, distorsioni sonore e contenuti tematici dall'aria sinistra e misteriosa. È il caso, per esempio, del primo estratto "One Eyed Girl", che pone subito il lavoro su binari intensamente frenetici, lasciando anche spazio ad una variazione maggiormente heavy, dove la chitarra solista di Sean McAvinue accompagna le grida della Tate. A tenere alto il ritmo ci pensano brani come "Always Right" e "Under The Bed", ma sono apprezzabili anche momenti più soft, rappresentati da pezzi come "Little Man" e "Push The Girl", nei quali Lauren espone il lato più sensuale della sua voce. Meritevole di nota è anche "Teethin", che sfoggia uno dei chorus più orecchiabili e si propone tra le tracce di punta della release, pur non distinguendosi per originalità.

Giunti alla fine della particolare "Awfully Miserable", il giudizio che possiamo dare su "Burn The Beauty Queen" è senz'altro positivo. Gli Hands Off Gretel si propongono al grande pubblico con un album che mette in evidenza quelle che sono le caratteristiche principali della band, fortemente improntate sulla creatività di Lauren Tate, ma anche sulla polivalenza di Sam Hobbins, a cura dell'intera sezione ritmica, e sull'energia di Sean McAvinue. Di certo il contenuto delle tredici tracce non sfoggia nulla di innovativo, né di esageratamente tecnico, per quella che è la natura stessa della band, ma i giovanissimi del South Yorkshire promettono grinta ed esplosività da vendere che saprà (soprattutto dal vivo) coinvolgere un pubblico di fan della band e non solo.

It's time to show up on the scenes for Hands Off Gretel. The band has in fact just released "Burn The Beauty Queen", independently produced and distributed by the British punkster quartet itself, and it's busy with a tour that will bring them all over the UK this autumn. Based on the huge feedback on the social networks it is evident as these guys can already count on a large number of supporters. A good result for a band at their debut album, this to underline the enthusiasm that accompanies a project created and carried on with dedication by the highly talented singer (and rhythmic guitar) Lauren Tate. 

"Burn The Beauty Queen" is a psych adorned grunge album that reflects the eccentric nature of the band, thanks to a dirty and fierce voice, sound distortions and sinister contents. All these features are introduced by "One Eyed Girl", a track that immediately directs the mood on frenzied paths, also showing some heavier moments at the end, as Sean McAvinue's guitar follows Lauren in a deep series of intense cries. The rhythm is hold up by songs like "Always Right" and "Under The Bed" whereas"Little Man" and "Push The Girl" present soft passages , that emphasize the most sensual side of Tate's voice. Noteworthy is then "Teethin", with one of the most catchy choruses of the album, the highpoint of the entire collection, despite a little lack of innovation.

As we reach the end of "Awfully Miserable", we realize that our judgment on "Burn The Beauty Queen" can only be positive. Hands Off Gretel show themselves to the public with an album capable of highlighting all the main features of the band, strongly based on Lauren Tate's creativity and on the energy charge due to Sean's contribution and reinforced by the rhythm section. Of course, considering the nature of the band itself, we cannot expect anything particularly innovative, nor extremely technical, but the youngsters from South Yorkshire pledge a really embroiling grit, especially on stage.
