Ciao Linnéa, benvenuta su SpazioRock! Vorrei chiederti, prima di tutto, quando hai deciso che era il momento di cimentarsi in una carriera solista?
E' un'idea che avevo in testa già da un po', per quello che posso ricordare, di quelle che avevo voglia di mettere in pratica insieme a tante altre, mi ronzava nella mente da così tanto tempo che a un certo punto non ho dovuto fare altro che seguirla in qualche modo.
Pulsar, buchi neri, teorie del big bang... non è un mistero che il vostro debut affondi le radici nello spazio profondo. Qual è la tua personale "ultima frontiera"?
Ci sono così tante cose da esplorare nell'universo! Io in questo momento desidero esplorare quelli che sono i miei limiti musicali in senso stretto, magari attraverso diverse e complesse formule matematiche...staremo a vedere, magari potrebbe uscirne qualcosa di grandioso. Mi piacerebbe ad esempio suonare al Wembley Stadium, che a pensarci bene non è solo un potenziale successo a lungo termine, ma qualcosa di più, ahah!
QFT può essere considerato a tutti gli effetti un concept album... Qual è secondo te il miglior concept di sempre? Ne sei stata in qualche modo influenzata?
Mi verrebbe da dirti "From The Inside" di
Alice Cooper, lui è probabilmente la maggiore fonte di ispirazione di tutto quello che ruota attorno all'idea di rock opera, o concept album che dir si voglia. Per me è da sempre un criterio imprescindibile, se avessi avuto un progetto solista, sarebbe stato senz'altro un concept.
Due tracce in particolare mi hanno colpito: "End Of The Universe", molto Black Sabbath oriented, e "Time", per via delle sue atmosfere. In che modo sei riuscita a legare i temi trattati con l'hard rock piuttosto che il prog o la psichedelia ?
Mi sono limitata a creare musica senza un obiettivo in mente. La gente in generale è spesso ossessionata dai generi e dalla necessità di catalogare la musica, come se fossero tante piccole scatole. Credo che alla fine è più una cosa che riguarda il fare ciò che mi piace ed esplorare quello che ritengo interessante e meritevole.
Trattando di spazio, ti sei in qualche modo basata sulle teorie di Stephen Hawking o deGrasse Tyson?
Non ho composto un'opera nel senso letterale del termine e l'album non ha una trama in sé, se questo è ciò che intendevi. Di certo sono stata influenzata in modo netto da Stephen Hawking e deGrasse Tyson, dopotutto non stiamo parlando soltanto di scienziati luminari nel loro campo, ma anche di persone capaci di dare un senso e un significato all'intero universo in un linguaggio comprensibile da chiunque.
Il tuo modo di cantare è molto diverso nei QFT, rispetto ai Therion. Sembra proprio che ti sia voluta cimentare in uno spettro più ampio di tonalità. Cosa ha scatenato in te questa voglia di cambiamento?
Quelli che mi conoscono per i trascorsi nei Therion potrebbero vedere questa esperienza come un cambiamento per me, ma in verità riflette pienamente quello che sono sempre stata. Nessun cambiamento è stato pianificato a tavolino, è soltanto l'occasione di mostrare al mondo una parte di me come artista.
Nel disco c'è una cover eccellente di un pezzi di Bjork, "Joga". Come è nata la scelta?
Penso che sia uno dei pezzi più incredibili mai composti su questa Terra e ho sempre desiderato rendere omaggio al Pianeta Terra e a Bjork come artista. E' una grande fonte di ispirazione per me!
Che ne pensi dello sci-fi revival tuttora in atto? Mi riferisco ovviamente, a serie TV, documentari, docuserie e film usciti negli ultimi anni (Star Trek Discovery, The Martian, Interstellar)...
Adoro tutta quella roba, e col senno di poi penso che tutto l'album sia stato indirettamente ispirato da tutto questo sci-fi revival.
Sulla vostra pagina Facebook è recentemente apparsa una citazione di Star Wars, da cui devo dedurre che siete fan. Chi è il tuo personaggio preferito della saga?
Certo che sono fan, e lo sono diventata in età adulta, così che non porto con me tutto quel senso di nostalgia che attanaglia i fan della prima ora. Non saprei davvero chi scegliere come preferito, ciascuno di essi ha uno scopo nei film della saga.
Chi credi che apprezzerà maggiormente questa release? I metallari o i nerd? Entrambi? Gli Astrofisici?
Davvero non ne ho idea, spero che lo apprezzino un po' tutti (ride NdR)
Possiamo aspettarci un secondo capitolo per i QFT e un tour promozionale?

Hi Linnea and welcome to SpazioRock! When have you decided to test yourself with a solo career?
It has been on my mind for as long as I can remember but there's been a lot of different idea as to what I actually wanted to do. This particular idea stuck with me for such a long time that I simply had to follow through with it.
Pulsar, black holes, big bang... it is no secret that your debut album as a solo artist is deeply rooted in Space. What is your personal "final frontier"?
There are so many things to explore in the universe! Right now I want to explore what I can do musically with different complex mathematical ideas, to have those ideas as a restraint for my songwriting. We'll see! It could be cool. I'd also like to play at Wembley Stadium but that is more of a long term goal haha!
I assume we can consider QFT a sort of concept album... what is, in your opinion, the best concept album ever released? Has it inspired you somehow?
I would say Alice Coopers "From the inside". Alice Cooper in general is probably the biggest inspirator to the whole concept album thing. It's always been sort of a criteria for me to have a concept if I'm gonna do something solo.
I was impressed especially by two tracks: the opener "End OF The Universe", very Black Sabbath oriented, and "Time" with its atmospheric mood. Why did you decide to connect these subjects with hard rock more than, for example, prog rock or psychedelic stuff?
I just made music without an endgoal in mind. People seem to be really obsessed with genres and putting music into boxes. I guess in the end it's just a matter of me doing what I like and exploring what I find interesting.
Have you possibly based the plot of your opera on any specific theories by Stephen Hawking or deGrasse Tyson?
I haven't written an opera and the album doesn't have a plot. I have absolutely been inspired by Hawking and DeGrasse Tyson. Not only are/were they brilliant sceintists they are also really good at making sense of the universe in a manner that every person can understand.
In QFT, your style is quite different from the one we are used to in Therion. It seems you really wanted to deal with a wider range of tones. What has triggered this change in you?
People who only know me from Therion might see it as a change but for me, this is who I've always been. So no change has been triggered, only the chance to show the world who I am came.
Your cover of Bjork's "Joga" came out excellent. Why did you choose this song?
It's one of the most amazing songs on the planet and I've always wanted to sing it and make it both an homage to earth and also to Björk herself. She's a big inspiration to me!
What do you think about the recent sci-fi revival? I refer to all those TV series, documentaries and movies (Star Trek Discovery, The Martian, Interstellar) that have been released in the latest years....
I absolutely love that stuff. I think that in hindsight the album probably is subconciously inspired by this sci fi revival.
On your FB page you quote Star Wars, so I suppose you are a fan.. who is your favourite character and why?
I am a fan! However I became a fan as an adult so I don't have that nostalgia attached to it. I don't really know who to choose as my favorite, they all serve their purpose in the movies.
Who do you think will love this release the most? Metal kids, nerds, both or astrophysicists?
I have no idea really! I hope all of those will love it haha!
Can we expect a follow up for this project and a promotional tour?
I truly hope so!
