Ciao e benvenuti su SpazioRock! Come state? Vi state divertendo in Italia? Siete contenti di essere tornati in Italia?

Sì, tantissimo, questa è la nostra terza volta in Italia, questo tour è stato fantastico e, sai, viaggiare in Europa è sempre bellissimo. Ieri avevamo una data a Bologna ed è stato uno spettacolo fantastico e sono anche felice di condividere il palco con gli Underoath.

Perché avete scelto "Crossfaith" come nome della vostra band? È la traduzione letterale del vostro nome giapponese? Oppure pensate che abbia perso parte del suo significato nella traduzione?

Il nome è solo Crossfaith, abbiamo anche gadget con la versione giapponese del nome, sui cappelli per esempio. Crossfaith significa che ogni membro della band ha la sua fede e queste si incrociano, e così, questa è una croce.

Sono trascorsi 10 anni dall'uscita della vostra prima demo "Blueprint of Reconstruction", come vi vedete se guardate indietro a quei tempi? In che modo vi senti te cambiati?

Siamo cambiati molto. Dieci anni fa ero all'università, tutto era nuovo di zecca, facevamo delle demo, stampavamo la copertina e facevamo tutto da soli, tutto era fai-da-te, era carino e super giovane. Ma in realtà la nostra passione non è cambiata.

Come vi siete sentiti quando avete capito che stavate diventando popolari anche al di fuori del Giappone, in Europa?

In realtà abbiamo ancora qualche difficoltà in Europa, ma stiamo diventando famosi. Girare l'Europa in tour è un modo per uscire dal Giappone. Speriamo sempre di tornare qui. In realtà voglio vivere in Europa.

Pensi che sia meglio qui?

Diciamo, per certi aspetti...

Cosa ti manca di più dal tuo paese d'origine quando sei lontano?

Il cibo! Ho notato che ci sono così tanti ristoranti giapponesi qui. Voglio provarne uno, ma immagino che sarà super costoso.

Invece , come viene ricevuta in Giappone, la vostra musica?

Il nostro tour come band headliner in Giappone è stato grandioso. Anche se il nostro stile musicale è super pesante e il nostro genere non è molto popolare in Giappone, pian piano sta crescendo sempre più.

Il vostro nuovo album "EX_MACHINA" uscirà il 3 agosto. Se confronti questo nuovo album con il precedente, "Zeno", qual è la differenza principale?

Questa volta non volevamo che nessun produttore ci influenzasse, l'abbiamo prodotto ascoltando solo noi stessi.

Puoi darci una sorta di anteprima sul nuovo album?

È una specie di concept album. È difficile da spiegare, ci vorrebbero anni, ma cercherò di spiegarlo un po'. Il tema principale è il risveglio dell'umanità, ora la tecnologia è diffusa ovunque, è super utile, ma a volte ci distoglie da quello che possiamo chiamare una sorta di "processo". Ad esempio, oggi possiamo ascoltare la musica facilmente su Spotify e trovarne di nuova, ma stiamo perdendo il processo: quando ero più giovane andavo sempre al negozio di dischi, sceglievo il CD che volevo, tornavo a casa mia e con grande eccitazione lo ascoltavo. Ora tutto è semplicissimo, ma penso che il processo sia importante e spero che non vada perso. Quello che volevo dire attraverso questo album è che l'importante è scegliere cosa si ritiene giusto, discernere, decidere da soli la propria strada. Il discorso è molto ampio, ma semplicemente, il tema principale è il risveglio dell'umanità e della personalità.

Il primo singolo dell'album si chiama "The Perfect Nightmare", qual è il tuo peggior incubo?

Penso quando, durante questo tour, dovevamo andare in un autobus, ma il tizio che doveva accompagnarci in questo tour se n'è andato e non ha fatto nulla e abbiamo cambiato la band in tour in Europa. Ma questo è davvero buono, possiamo fermarci a guardare scenari meravigliosi.

Avete realizzato 3 delle canzoni del nuovo album con tre artisti diversi. Come funzionano queste collaborazioni? Lo fareste di nuovo? Qual è stata la vostra preferita?

Sono state fantastiche, ma penso che ciò che la gente non si aspettava fosse il brano "Distroy" realizzata con gli Ho99o9. Sono una band hip-hop di New Jersay e oggi stanno diventando popolari negli Stati Uniti, e il loro stile è così unico, è rap ma più stridulo. È come se la gente non potesse aspettarsi che noi collaborassimo con artisti hip-hop.

Parlando delle vostre esibizioni, ho sentito che sono molto intense .. come le descriveresti in tre parole?

Futuristico, metal...e l'ultima è Booom.

Ken, come fai a resistere cantando e urlando per un intero spettacolo, senza perdere la voce?

Vorrei saperlo anch'io. Sai, cerco sempre di mantenere la mia voce. In Giappone, se facciamo un tour, abbiamo molti giorni liberi, ma in Europa voi ragazzi non vi fermate un attimo, e questo è davvero doloroso per me. Ma bere molto e usare del miele mi aiuta.

Tutti i vostri testi sono in inglese, perché? Avete mai pensato di scrivere una canzone in giapponese?

In realtà no. Volevo solo cantare in inglese, non c'era una ragione particolare all'inizio, volevo cantare in inglese solo perché secondo me è più cool.

Quali sono gli artisti che ti hanno ispirato di più? C'è una band / cantante con cui ti piacerebbe suonare?

Gli Slipknot e i Prodoucers.

E qual è il tuo principale artista di riferimento in Giappone, per il vostro genere?

In Giappone? .. nessuno in particolare, siamo noi il riferimento!

Qual è il posto o la situazione più folle in cui vi siete esibiti?

La Cina era pazza e l'Asia è pazza in generale. La Thailandia è pazza: ho ricevuto una scossa elettrica dal mio microfono e alcune persone hanno iniziato a rimanere pietrificate dalle loro mani, ma fortunatamente non mi sono fatto male. Anche la Russia è pazza.

 Hello and welcome to SpazioRock! How are you doing? Are you enjoying Italy? Is it your first time here?

Actually this is our third time in Italy, this tour has been great and, you know, travelling in Europe is always awesome. Yesterday we had a show in Bologna and that was an awesome show, and I'm also happy to share the stage with Underoath.

Why did you chose "Crossfaith" as your band's name? Is it the literal translation of your Japanese name? Do you think that it has lost some of its meaning in the translation?

The name is just Crossfaith, we also have merchandising with the Japanese version of the name, on the hat for example. Crossfaith means each member of the band has his own faith and it's crossing and so, that's a crossfaith.

It has been 10 years since the release of your first demo "Blueprint of Reconstruction", how do you see yourselves when you look back at that time? In what way do you feel changed?

We've been changing a lot. Ten years ago I was at university, everything was very brand new, we were making demos, we printed the cover and we made everything by ourselves, everything was DIY, it was fond and super fresh. But actually our passion hasn't changed.

How did you feel when you realized you were becoming popular also outside of Japan, in Europe?

Actually it's still like we are struggling in Europe, but we are getting popular. Touring Europe is a kind of way to get out of Japan. We always hope to come back here. Actually I wanna live in Europe.

Really?! Do you think it is better here?

I'm like, at some point, you know ...

What do you miss the most from your home country?

Food! I noticed you have so many Japanese restaurants here. I wanna try it, but I guess it's gonna be super expensive.

How is your music received in Japan, instead?

It's been great. We did our headliner tour in Japan and even though our music style is super heavy, our genre is not really popular in Japan but it's getting bigger.

Your new album ‘'EX_MACHINA'' will be out in August , the 3rd. If you compare this new album with the previous one, "Zeno", what's the main difference?

This time we didn't want any producer to influence us , we produced it by ourselves.

Can you give us some sort of preview about the new album?

It's a kind of concept album. It's hard to explain, it's gonna take ages, but I'm gonna try to explain it a little bit. The main theme is awake humanity, now technology is super huge, it's super helpful but sometime it takes us off from what we can call a sort of ‘process'. For instance, today we can listen to music super easily on Spotify and find new music, but we are losing the process: when I was younger I always went to the record store, I picked one then I went back to my house and with super excitement I listened to the music. Now everything is super easy but I think that the process is important. What I wanted to say through this album is that the important thing is to chose your right, to discern, to decide your own way by yourself. It's very wide, but simply, the main theme is awakening humanity and personality.

The first single of the album is called "The Perfect Nightmare" , what's your worst nightmare?

hummm..I think, about this tour, we were supposed to tour to a bus, but the guy who was supposed to team in this tour is gone and he didn't do anything and we switched the band to tour in Europe. But this is good actually, we can stop and watch beautiful sceneries.

You realized 3 of the new album's songs with three different artists. How did these collaborations works? Would you do it again? Which was your favorite one?

They were awesome but I think that what people didn't expect was "Distroy" feat Ho99o9 . They are an hip hop band from New Jersey and nowadays they are getting popular in the States, and their style is so unique, it's rap but more screeching. It's like, people can't expect us to collaborate with hip-hop artists.

Talking about your performances, I heard they are really intense.. how would you describe them in three words?

Futuristic, metal..and the last one is Booom.

Ken, how do you ménage singing and screaming for a whole show, without losing your voice?

I wanna know that as well. You know, I'm always trying to keep my voice. In Japan, if we have tour, we have many days off, but in Europe you guys don't take off, and that's really hurtful for me. But keeping drinking water and leaking honey help me.

All your texts are in English, why? Have you ever thought about writing a song in Japanese?

Not really . I just wanna sing in English, there is no particular reason at the beginning, I wanted to sing in English just because it's cool to me.

Which are the artists that inspired you the most? Is there a band/singer you would like to play with?

Slipknot and the the Prodoucers.

And what's your main reference artist in Japan, for your genre?

In Japan? ..none in particular, we are the reference!

Which is the craziest place or situation where you performed?

China was crazy and Asia is crazy in general. Thailand is crazy: I got an electric shock from my microphone and some people started petrified from their hands, but luckily I wasn't hurt. Russia is also crazy.
