"Sing" è una miscela, inizialmente tra gelosia e frustrazione per non essere nel luogo in cui si desidererebbe, ma allo stesso tempo vogliamo dare un messaggio di speranza e positività spronando ad andare avanti superando la frustrazione e gli altri sentimenti negativi.

Nel corso della vostra carriera siete stati associati a generi musicali differenti fra loro, dal post-hardcore, all'emo, al pop, fino all'alternative rock. Voi però come definireste quest'ultimo album?

Probabilmente lo definirei Rock onesto, emotivo.

"St. Paul's" è una canzone che parla d'amore, un'amore per il quale vale la pena combattere. Voi siete inglesi e con questa canzone c'è un riferimento alla famosa Cattedrale di Londra. È un luogo particolarmente significativo per alcuni di voi?

Sì, di sicuro. La Cattedrale di St. Paul è molto vicino a dove viveva James nel momento in cui la scrisse, raccontando della relazione che aveva appena iniziato.

Avete programmato anche una data in Italia durante il tour europeo?

Sì, credo proprio che passeremo per l'Italia.

Quali canzoni del vostro ultimo lavoro amate suonare dal vivo? Quali vi emozionano di più?

Ci piace molto suonare la traccia numero tre dell'album: "L.O.V.E", probabilmente perché quella canzone ha preso vita quando abbiamo iniziato a lavorarci su come una band che suona davvero dal vivo. Ci piace molto anche la resa live della traccia finale dell'album "Pensacola 2013". Il pezzo si costruisce nel corso dell'esecuzione e quando si arriva al finale della canzone si sente stupendamente quanto siamo tutti completamente coinvolti dalla musica.

La versione acustica di "Seattle" crea l'atmosfera perfetta per riflettere. Che cosa è successo lì? La canzone è stata scritta in quella città?

La canzone in sé non è stata scritta a Seattle, ma durante il nostro tour in America alcuni anni fa. Seattle è stata la prima città, quella in cui siamo atterrati e un'esperienza del genere l'ha resa un punto di riferimento preciso per James, tanto che ha deciso di scrivere questa canzone per tutti noi, parlando di come i giorni si trasformino in settimane e così via, ma soprattutto di quanto si possa sentire la nostalgia di casa.

Alcune canzoni portano il nome luoghi ben precisi, come città ad esempio, altre tracce invece fanno un chiaro riferimento ai luoghi interiori. Dove porterà questo viaggio nelle notti che raccontate nell'album?

La prima canzone dell'album fa pensare ad un nuovo inizio, come ad una rinascita dalle ceneri. C'è una ragione per cui "Ashes, Ashes" è la canzone di apertura?

Questo è esattamente il motivo per cui l'abbiamo scelta, non appena l'abbiamo sentita abbiamo sentito che avrebbe dovuto essere l'opening track dell'album, la prima canzone che la gente avrebbe sentito su "All These Countless Nights". È stato un nuovo inizio per tutti noi e questa canzone ne cattura il senso.

Rilasciando la versione LP deluxe di "All These Nights" avete incluso una versione in vinile di "Anemophobia pt II" e "Sickago". Cosa pensi di questo ritrovato interesse per il vinile?

Personalmente penso che sia grande. Possiedo molti vinili e mi piace ascoltarli soprattutto perché rendono l'ascolto una vera e propria esperienza, e lo preferisco al semplice selezionare a caso sullo smartphone. Penso che il ritrovato interesse per il vinile stia nel fatto che le persone stiano cercando di comprare qualcosa di bello anche esteticamente e per cui valga davvero la pena spendere soldi. Questo è quello che succede con il vinile, si ottiene un album fisico e non una copia digitale, è un po' come un'opera d'arte, opuscoli, copertina e tutto il resto fanno parte del pacchetto.

"Sing" is the first single of your new album. Singing is like living and it's a message that is delivered in all the languages spoken in the world, as we can see in the video. What kind of message did you mean to transmit with this song?

The main message we wanted to transmit with "Sing" is probably a mixture between jealousy and frustration at not being where you want to be but also one of hope and positivity to carry on through that frustration as well.

Throughout your carreer you've been associated with many different genres, from post-hardcore, to emo, to pop and alternative rock. How would you define your latest record?

I'd probably call it honest, emotional rock.

"St. Paul's" is a song about love, some kind of love for which it worth to fight. You're British and with this song you refer to the famous Cathedral in London. Is it particularly meaningful for some of you?

Yeah for sure. St. Paul's Cathedral was very close to where James was living at the time about which the song was written and the relationship that he had just started.

Will you schedule a gig in Italy as well during your European Tour?

Yes, I do believe that we will be!

Which songs from your latest release do you love to play live? Which ones excite you the most?

We really enjoy playing track 3 from the record "L.O.V.E", probably because that song really came to life when we started playing it and working through it as a live band. We also really love playing the final track on the album "Pensacola 2013", it just builds throughout and by the time that we get to the end of the song we are all so completely into the music that it feels amazing.

The acoustic version of "Seattle" makes you think. What happened there? Was the song written in that town?

The song itself wasn't written in Seattle, but throughout our journey on tour in America a few years ago. Seattle was the first city we landed in and experienced and so was a definite reference point for James in writing the song and for all of us as the days turned into weeks and we all became very homesick.

Some songs are named after places, towns, interior places. Where is this journey through the nights taking you to?

I guess it's just taking us through a journey of the past few years of James' life. Whether that's an emotional journey, a mental or a physical one changes from song to song - but it definitely is a journey that takes us up to where we are now.

The new record's opener makes you think of a new beginning, a rebirth from the ashes. Is there a reason for the choice of opening the record with this song?

That is exactly why we chose it, it really is James laying himself to rest and as soon as we heard it we knew that it had to be the first thing people would hear on "All These Countless Nights" as it has been a new beginning for all of us and that song captures that.

By releasing the LP deluxe version of "All These Countless Nights" you included a vinyl version of "Anemophobia pt II" and "Sickago". What do you think about this renewed interest in vinyl?

I think it's great personally. I love having records and listening to them as it makes listening to music a real experience, rather than something you can just select at random on your phone. I think a lot of the renewed interest in vinyl is down to the fact that people are looking to buy something that looks beautiful and is really worth spending money on and with vinyl you get a physical album, very often a digital copy and then the artwork, booklets and everything else that go into the package.
