Gli U2 annunciano l’uscita della nuova edizione speciale di Achtung Baby in occasione del trentesimo anniversario, il 19 novembre, in forma Standard e Deluxe. Inoltre il 3 dicembre sarà pubblicato un cofanetto di 50 tracce.
L’album
L’album, il settimo della band, fu pubblicato il 18 novembre 1991 e registrato nell’arco di sei mesi all’Hansa Studio di Berlino e al Windmill Lane di Dublino.
Smantellando e sfidando le vecchie formule, gli U2 si sono dati la possibilità di lasciare un segno negli anni ’90
ha scritto Jon Pareles del New York Times, mentre Bono, trent’anni fa, ha definito l’album come:
il suono di quattro uomini che abbattono The Joshua Tree
Se trent’anni fa la band aveva richiesto a Thierry Noir (primo artista a dipingere sul muro di Berlino) di decorare delle auto Trabant presenti poi nell’artwork dell’album, anche per quest’occasione gli artisti hanno deciso di collaborare. Infatti, per l’anniversario di Achtung Baby, l’artista francese completerà un’ installazione speciale presso gli Hansa Studios a Kreuzberg. Così, per questa collaborazione, sarà dipinto un murales su una sezione del muro di Berlino e un’auto Trabant.
Il boxset e l’appuntamento radio
Come parte della vendita New Now, l’auto verrà messa all’asta il 9 dicembre 2021 a Phillips, e il ricavato verrà dato al Berlin Institute for Sound and Music.
Inoltre, Il 3 dicembre sarà pubblicato un boxset digitale di 50 tracce, comprendente Uber Remixes, Unter Remixes, B-Sides con 22 tracce che fino ad ora non erano mai state disponibili digitalmente. Il canale SiriusXM della band, U2 X-Radio, presenterà uno speciale “Achtung Baby” con interviste ai membri e ai collaboratori Daniel Lanois, Flood e Anton Corbijn.
