Quella è ispirata ad un detto inglese che recita:"this is everybody's cup of tea". Lasciamo a voi l'interpretazione.
"Won't Hold Me Back".
Spengo il computer ed è come se l'isola che non c'è, o Barceloningham, fossero ancora qui con me…anche se "Peter was not with them for the moment, and they felt rather lonely up there by themselves. He could go so much faster than them, that he would suddenly shoot out of sight, to have some adventure in which they had no share" – J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

"So come with me, where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Never Never Land!" – J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
This is the kind of feeling you might get chatting with Jacob, lead singer and bass player of the British (but also Spanish and Bulgarian) band StOp,sToP! An artist who has created his own world fighting against reality and giving all he has just to see his dreams come true. He might look like some kind of crazy weirdo with the white makeup mask, just like a mean joker screaming at your face while on stage, and his moves and voice will make you want to party all night long. However, deep inside, he is a beautiful soul who inspires his fans and all the people lucky enough to get the message he hopes to deliver. We meet on Skype, a kind of place that doesn't really exist, somewhere between Italy and Spain, on a warm summer night. The conversation starts in the most fascinating way.
So the first question I have in mind is about the title of the new album: "Baceloningham". Sounds pretty imaginative, like some kind of Neverland, doesn't it?
You have to imagine Barceloningham like a place that we created. The band actually met in Barcelona, but we live in Birmingham, so we thought it would be nice to melt two places together. To us it's just another way to say: no matter where you are in the world, or where you come from, we are all the same. It's like this new place, it's the place where we are making our dreams come true. To be honest, the idea of the name came from a fan and then we thought it would sum up pretty well our identity cause it could be anywhere.
The cover of the album (the band looks immersed in cup of pink tea) is also very curious!
It is inspired by an English saying that goes like this: "this is everybody's cup of tea". You know English people tend to be very picky about tea. The meaning can be interpreted in two different ways: this is something everybody likes or… this is not something everybody likes. You decide. We are in your tea actually… it's like we are everywhere!
Once again you express freedom of thinking.
StOp,sToP! means stop hate, stop stupid rules, stop creating differences, stop the borders. After all, no matter where you come from, we all want to be happy, we all laugh at the same jokes, we don't have to forget we all live on the same planet. The more you travel around the world, the more differences become nothing. Everything has its perfect place and perfect moment in this world but only if you give it a chance to have it at the right place and right moment… like you know, we are not the best band in the world, we are not the worst band in the world, but we love what we do and somebody loves us. I give you a very simple example. When you wake up at 6am, you don't fancy ice-cream. It's not the first thing you would think of for breakfast, right? But that doesn't mean you don't like ice-cream. Guess what: once you have finished your working day, and it's early evening, and it's still hot, and you are going home, and you notice an ice cream parlour… you suddenly feel like eating tons of ice cream! And that's what we are. We are the kind of music you need when you feel like having a good time and want to party! You just have to find us at the right time of the day and that works for everything else, every little creature has the right to be there and the right to be different, you just have to find it at the right moment to understand its existence and appreciate it.
Which is the first single that will be released from the new album?
It's a song called "Won't hold me back". It's a very representative song actually. It contains the full meaning of what our music is and it gives you a little taste of what you're gonna find in the album. (The song is like a punch in the face from the very first note, guaranteed).
You always involve your fans in your amazing adventures, and we all got the chance to enjoy pics from the recording studio. How was the whole recording process?
We love to let our fans get involved in what we do, it's important to not forget they are the reason we can do everything we get to do and without them nothing would have been possible. They always do amazing things to support us so we owe each and every one of them… and about the recording process, well, it meant one big step for me as I did the production of the album myself and the most important decision about the process is the way we chose to record the album. It's all about giving the impression of what you'd get listening to us playing live. We are only three people on stage: a singer who also plays the bass, a guitar player (Vega) and a drummer (Danny). So what would have been the point of faking two guitars, or other instruments overproducing the whole stuff? We just tried to leave it as raw as we are when we play live, just to make the most honest record we could, true to the bone. Just like rock'n'roll to me, it has to be simple, honest and raw.
I know the launch party for the record will be on the first of October.
Yes, it's gonna happen in a very nice venue, and it's a very huge honour to us, cause it's a venue called the Slade Rooms (just in case you wanna go and have a crazy night, the place is in Broad Street, WV1 1HP Wolverhampton) it is dedicated to Slade, a band that was from there, so the venue created a whole place for a tribute, with tons of pictures of them everywhere. These people were the fathers of glam rock which we love so much, you know. It's gonna be a very special night to us, cause it's a one thousand people capacity venue and we are headlining the show. There's gonna be loads of people comin' from Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and of course all our beloved mofos from all around the UK… plus, that night will be the first time we're ever gonna sell the new album, before the official release date which will be on the 7th of October so it's a great chance to get the new cd exclusively before its official release. BUT! Just in case the Italian fans can't make it for that night, we will bring all of our new songs to Italy in November, when we play there! (StOp,sToP! will play at the BlueRose saloon in Milan on the 18th of November).
What about the songwriting process of this album?
I started feeling the withdrawal symptoms after the release of the previous album "Join the party" and I started writing songs. Right after releasing "Join the Party" we got into a crazy non stop touring, and it has been two years. We needed the money to keep going so we had to take every gig we were offered to play and to find enough time to write songs was a bit difficult as we played almost everywhere. At first we couldn't really gather enough money, so we asked the fans to get together somehow and help us to reach our dream. They were unbelievable. We didn't expect such warm support: some of them baked cakes and sold them, some other made jewelry, some raised money giving us stuff to sell, some others made donations. It was insane and overwhelmingly beautiful. They inspired us so much so I felt I couldn't really disappoint them and I did all I could to keep the songwriting going, but just because I owed them so much, I felt every single song I was writing was never good enough to give back… but then I said to myself: calm down and just do what you can do. Just write. And what came out was immediately and enthusiastically appreciated by my band mates and I felt we were ready to go. I am very proud of these songs. They talk about the love we felt and the things that were happening to us thanks to the people who surrounded us. As soon as people hear the songs, they will realize what I am saying cause it's true. The more natural and honest you get as a musician, the more people will get the songs. You know you can't say an album is done until people get to check it. If they dig it then you have done the right thing. You have done a good job. Cause music must be shared, it's the only way it can be enjoyed. Once they get my message… then, I have a new album and not just a bunch of songs recorded on a CD.
I thanked Jacob and he thanked me like we were old friends having a nice conversation after a long time apart. Then I started listening to the songs. StOp,sToP! might not be the best or the worst band in the world, but once you get to know their music, they are the most honest and crazy rockers you will ever listen to. The new album has no filter, no lies, no masks. There is the blues and the hard rock, the truth and the show. And it is all about extreme fun, a smashing sound and pure grit. The recording is so clear and direct you can very well turn up as loud as possible and feel like Jacob Vega and Danny were rocking right over your place, jumping over your bed, scattering glitter and rock'n'roll all over your furniture and covering you with fireworks. Prepare to shake your hair like crazy while singing along. I warmly recommend the track "Humbug" to get the party started or, if you feel like you need a warm hug at the end of a hard day, go for "Little fighter", a highly emotional tiny masterpiece that you wouldn't expect from such energy boosters. "Out of the fire, into the pan" is the kind of song that would make you jump off your chair even if you can't really dance. "Walk n' stalk" can easily be imagined shaking a whole arena full of people who jump along, and you're gonna join their party in Barceloningham too. Sometimes interviews can help in getting in touch with authors and their music but only if the artist opens the door of his world so that the journalist can have a glance into the path to their dreamlands. As soon as I switched my computer off I felt like Neverland, or Barceloningham, was still with me though.
