Be', abbiamo mantenuto quei tratti per tutta la nostra carriera, naturalmente il thrash metal, ma anche un background punk-rock e degli elementi tipicamente rock ‘n roll. Credo che ciò che è accaduto questa volta sia che abbiamo realizzato che quegli elementi di "Years Of Decay" e "Horrorscope" andavano riportati alla luce per essere reinventati e adattati al presente.

 

 

Il metal è la musica di tre generazioni che condividono il valore della stessa scena musicale dagli anni '80 e '90. L'unica differenza è che allora era un'assoluta novità, mentre oggi è qualcosa di formalizzato, non c'è nulla di nuovo ed è per questo che gli Overkill hanno bisogno di incorporare nuovi elementi alla loro musica per presentarsi in maniera innovativa.

 

 

 

Per prima cosa, è una forma di libertà. E' qualcosa che riesce a trasportarmi in altri posti, una barca dove viaggiare nella vita reale o nella propria fantasia. Ciò che rappresenta, è il motivo per cui ho partecipato al progetto con i Metal Allegiance, perché è un'altra occasione per sperimentare forme di libertà d'espressione.

 

 

Mi piacciono molto i Vessel Of Light. La nuova generazione deve procedere con i grandi della scena metal ma dovrebbe anche sperimentare qualcosa di nuovo, come l'underground o i sottogeneri della musica metal.

 

 

Non credo che ci sia un vero e proprio segreto, devi solo provare che il valore di quella musica può essere trasmesso a moltissime generazioni di fan. Non si tratta di un genere popolare, la band più rappresentativa della scena è quella dei Metallica, ma se allarghi gli orizzonti e ad esempio ti cali al livello degli Overkill, hai una panoramica su ciò che è l'underground nel metal e l'underground non è inquinato dalla pubblica opinione. Attraverso questo genere puoi sentire e provare i veri valori del metal ed è così che il dialogo avviene. E' fondamentale parlare la stessa lingua, nonostante il tempo.

 

 

 

Non credo ci sia una canzone che possa rappresentare la varietà del sound di questo nuovo album. C'è una traccia d'apertura davvero innovativa ("Last Man Standing") e poi "Distortion" ha la classica influenza heavy metal, "Welcome To The Garden State" ha un background punk rock e così via... Le mie tracce preferite sono "Head Of A Pin" e "Distortion".

 

 

Alla fine, quello di cui abbiamo bisogno è creare qualcosa di riconoscibile che suoni come gli Overkill. Questo è il segreto per continuare a fare ció che facciamo, essere riconoscibili, che sia dopo 50 minuti o dopo un singolo brano. Ma ovviamente ogni album nasconde una sorpresa, non é sempre la stessa cosa (ride, Ndr.)

 

 

 

 

 

 

Well, I think that we kept those elements throughout our career, like the thrash side of course, and I do think one of the themes we kept is also a "punk-rock background" and some rock ‘n roll elements. I think that what happened this time is that we realized we should bring back all those elements from the time of "The Years Of Decay" and "Horrorscope" and try to reinvent them for these present days.

 

 

Metal is the music of three generations that share the value of the same music scene since the 80s/90s. The only difference is that at the time that genre was completely new, while in the present days it's something almost formalized, nothing's new and that's why I told you that Overkill need to incorporate new elements to present theirselves as innovative.

 

 

 

First, it's a form of freedom, it's something that takes me to other places, a boat where to travel in real life or with my own fantasy. What represents to me is why I like to be free and that's why I parecipated with Metal Allegiance, because it's another opportunity to experiment freedom.

 

 

I really like Vessel Of Light. The younger generation has to come along the great metal scene and also try to experiment something else, like the underground metal scene and its subgenres.

 

 

I don't think that's a real secret, you just have to prove that the value of this music can be passed down to many generations of fan. Metal is not so popular as a genre. The biggest metal band that represents the whole scene is obviusly Metallica, but when you go down to the level of Overkill, you look to the undeground and the undergound is not polluted by popular opinions and you can feel the purity of the metal value and that's where the speaking comes true. It's important to speak the same "languange" through time.

 

There's not a song in particular that could represent the varieties of sound of our new album you know, there's a fresh opening track with "Last Man Standing" and then "Distortion" has the classic heavy metal vibes, "Welcome To The Garden State" has a punk background and so on. My favorite songs are "Head Of A Pin" and "Distortion".

 

 

At the end we just need to do something recognizable that sounds like Overkill. That's the key to continue to do this, we're still recognizable. After 50 minutes or after one song, it sounds like us, but each album has its own surprise and it's not always the same (laughs, Ed.).
