Ciao Michael! Benvenuto su SpazioRock.it, la nostra webzine. Come stai? Come vanno le cose ultimamente?

Sto bene.

Personalmente, alcuni dei miei brani preferiti sono “Same Old Story”, “Near” e “The Way, The Truth, The Life”.

Hi Michael! Welcome to SpazioRock.it, our webzine. It’s a pleasure to have a chat with you, even if via mail. How are you? How have you been doing lately?

I have been well. We just wrapped up an extensive tour throughout the year and now I am am finishing up the Sweet & Lynch album.

Let’s start talking about your new record, called “The Final Battle”, out on October 21st. First of all, kudos to you! I’ve listened to it and it sounds pretty solid! If you had to describe it, what would you say about it?

I am very happy with the outcome of the release of this album. We had to jump through some hurdles and climb some obstacles to get it finished due to health issues but we were able to do so. I believe that it is our best album to date. I could not be happier with how it turned out.

Are there any songs on the tracklist that you would like to talk about, maybe with some anecdotes behind their music and lyrics compositions?

Some of my personal favorites are “Same Old Story” and “Near” and “The Way, The Truth, The Life”. I love songs that are a little different from the others and songs that don’t stick to the formula. Those songs are a little different for us and that may very well be why I like them so much.

The album was conceived in difficult times, when Oz began a battle against brain cancer and you had a retinal problem. How did it all affect the writing process? How good has it been for you to have your work and passion beside you to deal with everything?

After my first surgery when I was able to sit up I was able to go into my studio and write the album. I wrote one song a day until I had 11 songs. Then I sent them to the guys for them to learn in my retina re-detached. After I was able to sit up after two weeks from that surgery that’s when we started the recording process. It was definitely very difficult for me but not so much so that it hurt the process or delayed the schedule. I did not want that to happen so I made sure that we stayed on path to get it done.

What keeps you inspired after all these years of career?

I love what I do and I still enjoy riding and performing music. It definitely inspires me and is part of my DNA. Obviously I have a deep faith in God and God inspires me daily. I feel that he has gifted me with the gift of music and still gives me a new ideas on a daily basis. I am very grateful for this and it is a true blessing.

You are one of the first Christian metal bands that came out, and one of the most successful ones, too. How do you successfully do it in a world where faith and religion are constantly mined?

I just don’t think about it. I follow my heart in my convictions and I write what I want to write about. Those who accept it do so and those who don’t don’t. I don’t think much about it and I just right from the heart and at the end of the day I am very happy that I’m honest and open about my faith. I also believe that God continues to bless me and the band and many new doors have been opening. We’ve been together for almost 40 years and the fact that we are still together is miraculous.

Talking about live shows, you’re in the middle of an American tour now. Do you have in mind to do some concert dates to promote your new release?

We just finished up an extensive tour that lasted most of the year. We went to South America and performed on the Kiss Kruise as well as many US states. We love touring in whenever we can perform to a new audience it is always a gift.

We’re getting to the end of the interview, thank you very much for your time. Would you like to leave a final message to your fans and our readers?

It’s an honor to be able to still do what we do. We are so grateful and thankful to the fans worldwide who continue to support us and who are so loyal standing with us and by us. We love our fans very much and we would not be here without them. We look forward to doing a European tour and meeting all of our European fans very soon. May God bless you all.
